Housing Information
Housing-On-Campus
Residence hall housing is available for men and women. A deposit of $100.00 is required. Students usually share a room with one other person. Private rooms, which cost more, may be requested subject to availability. Sheets, towels and pillows are not provided and may be purchased after your arrival. Brockton apartments, equipped with a stove, refrigerator and private bath, are available on campus at $1921 per semester. We recommend these apartments for international, graduate and married students. If desired, you can request to be placed on a special 24-hour quiet floor in many of the residence halls.
Housing-0ff-Campus
Students under 21 years of age or with less than 60 hours credit must live on campus. Because dormitory housing is available on campus, the university does not offer assistance in locating apartments off-campus. Apartments are not always readily available, so it may be necessary for you to arrive in Richmond earlier than usual in order to locate a suitable apartment on your own. Rent may vary from $350 to $600 per month. Living off campus will be more expensive than living on campus, although you will have your own cooking facilities and a private bath.
Weather and Clothing
Kentucky enjoys all four seasons. The average temperatures are 76F in summer and 36F degrees in winter. Students should bring heavy, warm clothes such as jackets and pullovers for winter, and light clothing for summer. An umbrella will come in handy. All of these may be purchased after you arrive.
Misc
You may wish to bring pictures, artifacts, examples of money, music, and arts and crafts with you from your country, along with examples of national dress. These are often useful in introducing Americans to life and culture in your country. All of these will also be useful when the international office has its annual "International Banquet" where most international students wear traditional clothes from their homes as well as display certain cultural effects that remind them of home.
