Welcome

Dr. Neil Wrigt, Director, International EducationWelcome to the Eastern Kentucky University International Office website! Some day we hope to meet you in person, but for now our website will at least give you a glimpse of what life is like at EKU.
Our university is a regional institution with about 15,000 students, most of whom are from Kentucky. We currently have about 200 students from 46 different countries across the world. The International Student Association is composed of these international students as well as some students from the USA. Each November we hold an International Banquet with food and entertainment by the students, and there are numerous gatherings and parties throughout the year for socializing.

Academically, EKU has five colleges with a wide variety of bachelor's and master's degrees. The College of Education, for training teachers; the College of Justice and Safety, for criminal justice and fire safety administration; the College of Health Sciences, for nursing, environmental science, and occupational therapy; the College of Business and Technology, for business, accounting, computer information systems, and construction or production technology; and the College of Arts and Sciences, for all the traditional academic subjects such as mathematics, biology, languages, chemistry, physics, history, psychology, sociology, and many other subjects.

EKU offers a modest tuition rate and international students can earn partial tuition scholarships based on their grades. We are located in a small town in the country about 25 miles from the airport in Lexington, Kentucky. Prices are low in this region, and the weather is temperate. The people here are friendly and very helpful to those from other countries.

I hope you will enjoy the information and the pictures on our website. I hope you will consider coming to EKU if there is a program or major subject here that you wish to pursue. But wherever you go to college, I wish you success and I hope that your efforts will bring you personal satisfaction. And please remember that international education is an important part of the movement toward a better world. It is worth the effort, and then some!

Sincerely,

Dr. Neil H. Wright,
Director of International Education
